Traffic's at a standstill after a serious crash between a truck and two cars north of Wellington

NZTA is warning of major delays after the crash between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki, and is asking people to avoid the area if possible.

Northbound traffic is being diverted down the southbound lane, and southbound traffic being diverted through a different route, which police say might not be suitable for trucks and heavy vehicles.

Police say there are reports people are injured .
