Between 50 and 100 millimetres is expected to fall in some areas.
Warnings are already in place for Auckland ahead of king tides at 8.30 tomorrow morning and at 9 tomorrow night, which could see road closures around Tamaki Drive and Maraetai.
The tides will peak at three point seven metres.
WeatherWatch analyst Philip Duncan says places like the Hauraki Gulf, Nelson, Marlborough and Bay of Plenty will also be exposed.
He says heavy rain coinciding with king tides can create a backlog of water, which causes localised flooding.
