The Otago Daily Times reports two men got into an argument outside a Night 'n Day about 4 on Saturday morning.
One man was accused of being racist by the other after he allegedly said goat pie could only be bought in an Asian shop.
Police say the man who made the accusation was then punched in the face.
He was due to appear in court today.
