The New Zealand cricket great's wife Lady Dianne has released a statement saying secondary cancer has been discovered in her husband's liver.
The cancer is thought to be in a very early stage and is operable.
As a result, he will have surgery and further chemotherapy treatment.
It was revealed last month that Sir Richard Hadlee has bowel cancer.
The Hadlee family has requested privacy on the matter, but maintain the openness of information to avoid speculation and gossip.
