Nineteen year old Teancum Petersen-Crofts spoke over top of the magistrate, saying his Mama told him to save himself - and accused a security guard of looking like a serial killer.
The judge has remanded him to a hospital until his next court appearance.
The teen is accused of murdering his mother, 15 year old sister and eight year old brother.
Australian media has reported that police were seen taking a large pair of scissors away from the crime scene.
