An important victory for workers employed by hire companies on behalf businesses trying to avoid the pay and conditions that permanent employees are entitled to

The Court of Appeal has turned down an appeal application from global airline catering company LSG SkyChefs.

Last year, the Employment Court ruled that hundreds of labour hire workers working in LSG SkyChef's catering operation were in fact employees of the company and if they were union members then they would be entitled to the employment conditions set out in the union collective agreement.

E tu union spokesman John Ryall says these workers have no security of employment and are often paid the minimum wage.

He says thousands of other workers are employed in this way - and most of them are migrants.
