The Commonwealth Games champions have begun their training week in San Francisco ahead of their opening game on Saturday morning New Zealand time.
Coach Clark Laidlaw has just the 12 players at his disposal, with World Rugby rules preventing travelling reserves or standby players in case of injury.
Laidlaw says if a player is injured before the tournament, they'll have to fly a replacement in.
Clark Laidlaw says they've been surprised by how many people know the World Cup is on.
