Milla Jovovich thinks it's more important to be liked than to be respected

The 42-year-old actress has admitted she'd prefer to be popular with her peers and friends than to be venerated because she believes it has a bigger impact on her general happiness

Asked which of the two she would prefer, Milla shared: "Being liked, in the end, is going to make you a happier person. You could die unhappy and alone, but be respected. You're not going to die unhappy and alone if you're liked."

Milla has also revealed she doesn't believe that things in her life are predetermined, arguing that fatalistic ideas are "very much rich-people talk".

The actress - who has daughters Ever, 10, and Dashiel, three, with her movie director husband Paul W. S. Anderson - said it's easy for privileged people in the developed world to fall into that way of thinking.

She told Stylist magazine: "I think it's very easy for people living in the first world to be fatalistic. But when you're living in a third-world country and your family is dying around you, or sick because they don't have clean water, what are you going say? 'Everything happens for a reason'? I think that's very much rich people talk."

Asked to reveal her own greatest fear in life, Milla confessed: "My kids not finding their passion, being lost in the world and allowing the world to lead them rather than leading."

Meanwhile, Milla revealed that despite spending so long in image-obsessed Hollywood, she still cannot understand why so many young people want to have plastic surgery.

The 'Resident Evil' star bemoaned the number of young women who "destroy themselves" by going under the knife.

She said: "It feels very prevalent at the moment, seeing young people with loads of plastic surgery."
