Officers have located a light coloured Nissan Terrano in relation to the death of Mitchell Paterson at McLaren Falls, near Tauranga.
They're calling for information from anyone who may have seen it in the area, or travelling to Hamilton early Friday morning.
Police are also seeking information on a 2001 Nissan Skyline, registration KAM195, believed to be involved in the death of a man with gang connections in Huntly.
Detective Inspector Graham Pitkethely says organised crime is a problem but law abiding citizens shouldn't be worried.
He says the cases are targeted attacks on people who are associated with gangs.
