Carnoustie has been Car-nasty for the New Zealand contingent in the British Open's opening round
20 July 2018
In-form Ryan Fox has battled to three-over par 74 while Michael Hendry is a shot better at two-over.
They're not the only ones to battle with the tinder-dry conditions, with world number one Dustin Johnson finishing at five-over.
The lead is at five-under with American Kevin Kisner.
Defending champion Jordan Spieth is six back but is keeping it in perspective.
He says that is about as well as the course will play and he doesn't see the winning score being better than the last event in 2007.
Seven-under was Padraig Harrington's winning score that year.
