The Council is pushing for a new bylaw to better manager the practice.
Freedom camping would be allowed at 94 sites, including the Western Springs Reserve, Fowlds Park in Mt Albert, and Eric Armishaw Park in Pt Chevalier.
Campervans would need to have on-board toilets, and people would only be able to camp in one spot for two days.
People would be allowed to sleep in cars at 24 sites, while camping would be banned altogether at more than 300 sites.
