No more hidden speed cameras
Frontline police staff to use overt rather than covert methods when stationing speed cameras
19 October 2004
The days of police officers hiding in bushes with speed cameras in the hope of nabbing unsuspecting motorists are gone.
Speed enforcement guidelines have been issued for the first time telling frontline staff to use overt rather than covert methods when stationing speed cameras.
National road safety manager Superintendent Steve Fitzgerald, says the guidelines will ensure police are not only fair but seen to be fair.
He says the practice of placing cameras anywhere and at anytime will still be used to make sure drivers do not become complacent.
