Police culture highlighted again after Internet porn
Cullen, dep PM, says discovery of objectionable images on police computers raises further questions abut police culture
22 April 2005
The Government does not believe the Commission of Inquiry into police conduct needs to be widened to include the issue of Internet pornography.
More than 300 sworn and non-sworn staff are under investigation after the discovery of thousands of objectionable images on police computers.
Acting Prime Minister Michael Cullen says he has full confidence in the way Police Commissioner Rob Robinson is dealing with the matter.
Dr Cullen says it is an internal matter of police actions which raises further questions about police culture.
He says he does not expect the current Commission of Inquiry into police conduct to be widened although he says he will wait and see what the commissioner recommends.
Dr Cullen says the fact that many officers are using resources inappropriately is not going to help their push for more resources.
The Commission of Inquiry into police conduct was launched after allegations officers were responsible for sexual misconduct against women.
