Hide challenges sources over Benson-Pope claims

Rodney Hide, ACT leader, says onus on former students to prove MP Benson-Pope abused them while teaching

    13 May 2005
ACT leader Rodney Hide says the onus is now on former students of David Benson-Pope to come up with proof, if he abused them while he was a teacher.

Mr Hide says he accepts denials from the Associate Education Minister, after he and National MP Judith Collins raised the matter in the House yesterday.

He says he has gone back to the people who made the claims to him, saying it is up to them to stand up and deliver.

The Principal of Dunedin's Bayfield High School, where Mr Benson-Pope taught, says the Minister left the school with an unblemished record.
