    DNA register launched today

The Human Reproductive Technology register is launched today following result of legislation passed last year

    22 August 2005
Sperm and embryo donors will be able to track down their offspring with a new DNA register launched today.

The Human Reproductive Technology register is the result of legislation passed last year.

Information about sperm, embryo and egg donors will be listed along with resulting offspring and their guardians.

Births, Deaths and Marriages Registrar-General Brian Clarke says it will allow people to track their genetic origins for information about ancestral history or potential illnesses.

He says release of the information will be strictly controlled by Internal Affairs.
