Shivnarine Chanderpaul has struck an impressive century to help rescue the West Indies on the opening day of second cricket test against the Black Caps in Napier.
The tourists are 258 for six heading into day two with Chanderpaul unbeaten on 100. Chanderpaul and Brendan Nash shared in a 163-run partnership after the Windies were in trouble at 74 for four.
Nash says Chanderpaul is a class act. He says Chanderpaul assesses the situation well and constantly pulls the side back in to the game.
Black Caps bowlers Iain O'Brien and Daniel Vettori have two wickets each.
Day two is scheduled to get underway at midday.
