Greens condemn removing healthy food rule

Green MP Sue Kedgley says scrapping healthy food rule for schools is "extraordinarily stupid"

    5 February 2009
The Greens have condemned the Government's decision to ditch the requirement that schools must sell only healthy food.

MP Sue Kedgley says there was nothing wrong with the directive to schools, which was brought in by Labour last year.

Ms Kedgley says it is extraordinarily stupid for the Government to scrap the guidelines and give schools the green light to start selling junk food again.

The Government says schools should be free to make up their own minds on what they sell in their tuck shops and they never liked being told what to sell by Labour.
