Northland to Taranaki and Bay of Plenty and Taupo Showers, becoming frequent and squally this afternoon. Cold southwest winds rising to gale in exposed places.
Taranaki and Taihape to Manawatu Showers becoming frequent and squally from afternoon. Snow lowering to 500 metres this evening.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. Fine at first. A cold showery southerly change this evening or tonight with snow lowering to 600 metres.
Wairarapa, Wellington, Kapiti and Marlborough Fine at first. A strong or gale southerly change this afternoon bringing showers, with possible hail and thunderstorms. Snow lowering to 400 metres this evening.
Canterbury Very cold southerlies spreading north this morning, with rain, and snow lowering to 300 metres. Showers becoming confined to Banks Peninsula this evening.
Otago and Southland Becoming cold and showery with possible thunderstorms and hail. Snow lowering to about 200 metres. Clearing in north and central Otago this evening.
Nelson A brief period of showers this afternoon.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland Rain spreading north this morning, with snow to about 500 metres. Clearing during the afternoon or evening.
