Porirua City Council has agreed a sinking lid policy for pub and club pokie machines

Porirua City Council has agreed a sinking lid policy for pub and club pokie machines

Ten licensed venues across the city are running 156 machines.

The policy means machines can't be relocated or merged if a venue closes - and most submitters were in favour.

The council has opted not to make an ethical commitment - to not apply for pokie machine grants.

Mayor Anita Baker says the money it gets from the machines funds the community bus and city events.
