The Mayor of Whangarei wants to properly future-proof the vital transport link between Auckland and Northland

The Mayor of Whangarei wants to properly future-proof the vital transport link between Auckland and Northland

State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyn Hills is closed for about nine weeks to undertake critical restoration work.

It will re-open for six days over Easter.

The Government's committed to building a four-lane highway alternative for the notoriously fragile road.

Mayor Vince Cocurullo says that's what Northland needs.

He'd love to see the four lane highway between Warkworth and Ruakaka completed within five years.
