The Green Party's new members bill, is hoping to pressure companies to make more sustainable products

The Green Party's new members bill, is hoping to pressure companies to make more sustainable products

Their Consumer Guarantees Amendment Bill, would require them to produce repair parts, to extend the life cycle of products -- instead of consumers throwing them out, when they break.

Consumer NZ has been pushing for a similar law change -- putting us on par with the US, UK and EU.

Commerce and Consumer Affairs spokesperson Ricardo Menendez-March, says companies should be making products and appliances that are meant to last.

He says it will ultimately also benefit consumers -- who hopefully won't have to fork out so much money.
