Avocado prices reached record heights in May - rising 37 percent after a small harvest

The average price for a 200 gram avocado last month was just over five dollars - up from three-dollars-69 in April.
Statistics New Zealand says typically avocado prices peak in July and August, as the main harvest season is from August to March.
But the New Zealand Avocado Growers Association says harvest volumes in the year to June were down to around half that of the previous season.
That's affected the average retail prices of avocados over the past 12 months.
