Two Northland police officers have received special police awards for perseverance and excellent detective work that led to New Zealand's largest ever drug bust

Sergeant Kevin Anderson and Detective Constable Thomas Nankivell suspected something was going down in June 2016 - particularly when a boat with large nets on board was found abandoned on Ninety Mile Beach.
They then heard the suspects had bought every suitcase in The Warehouse in Kaitaia, along with rubber gloves.
Next, on the way home, Detective Constable Nankivell spotted a suspicious campervan,
Almost 500 kilos of meth was found inside - and another 50 kilos was later found buried in sand dunes on Ninety Mile beach.
