The police have been told to rethink charges against former Chief Families Commissioner Belinda Milnes
28 March 2019
The 50 year old - who is now Simon Bridges' deputy chief of staff - has appeared in the Masterton District Court charged with common assault and wilful trespass.
It relates to an incident in February at a Carterton property Milnes had a financial interest in.
The court heard her ex-partner had asked her to drop off her daughter - because he'd been drinking.
On her arrival her keys were taken from her - and when they weren't returned, she rushed toward the female complainant - whose name is suppressed.
The judge asked the police to get legal advice on how trespass can relate to someone with ownership in a property.
The judge also said police should taker another look at the assault charge.
The case has been adjourned until May 23.
