The man has a bullet fragment in his shoulder, as a result of a driver firing at police in Rotorua on Sunday night.
The injured man's boss, George Melrose, says a bullet went through the taxi windscreen, hit a modem on the dash and shattered into pieces.
He's waiting for surgery and is now wondering whether he'll be able to head to India for his wedding next month.
A 25-year-old man has appeared in court following the incident and faces two counts of armed robbery.
