A happy ending for two men and six dogs trapped by floodwaters in the Far North

Far North Surf Rescue's emergency call out squad were alerted to the two men trapped by rising floodwaters near Kaitaia just after midnight last night.
Surf Lifesaving Northern Region spokesperson John-Michael Swannix says the two men were on top of a tractor in water up to three metres deep.
Mr Swannix says emergency services used flood-lamps to light the 200 metres from the road to the tractor so the IRB could rescue the men.
Mr Swannix says the farmer then mentioned his dogs were caged up nearby and were at risk from the floodwaters so a second IRB trip was made to rescue the dogs.
