Talks between Kiwirail and workers this afternoon will determine the possibility of a nationwide strike

More than 94 percent of the Rail and Maritime Transport Union have voted for a strike and stoppage ... in the pursuit of an eight percent wage increase.
They also claim there's a breakdown in communication with management.
It comes after a zero percent wage increase last year ... despite rising living costs and inflation.
Rail and Maritime Transport Union General Secretary Wayne Butson says a strike would be extremely disruptive.
He says it would affect the Wellington Metropolitan system, the Wairarapa and Auckland commuter trains, all freight operations and the ferries.
Kiwirail says it plans to continue negotiations today in good faith, and it's disappointed by the strike ballot.
