Rents are at record levels, with increases likely to continue over summer

Rents are at record levels, with increases likely to continue over summer

Trade Me figures show Auckland's North Shore, and Porirua in Wellington, had the highest weekly median - at 650 dollars.

The national median on the site in November was 560 dollars.

Regions such as Bay of Plenty had new records, at 520 dollars, Gisborne at 570 and Marlborough at 485.

In Canterbury and Northland, the median asking rent is up 10 percent on last year.

Auckland's median rent remains at 600 dollars a week ... but in the central city, prices are up seven percent year-on-year.
