Heavy rain is forecast for Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu, Horowhenua Kapiti and also the Tararua Range ... with weather watches now in place.
Heavy rain is also expected to fall on eastern Bay of Plenty and northern Gisborne.
MetSservice meteorologist Alwyn Bakker says the rain has the potential to be disruptive.
He says there could be localised flooding with a chance of 50 to 70 millimetres of rainfall over a nine hour period.
