Police are warning others, not to follow in the footsteps of a man - who got stranded in the cold on Mount Taranaki

Police are warning others, not to follow in the footsteps of a man - who got stranded in the cold on Mount Taranaki

Authorities were called on Saturday night at around 6pm after the solo traveller - got stuck up the mountain, running out of food, water, and phone battery.

Poor conditions meant rescuers couldn't be flown to the man's location and instead trekked nearly six hours to reach him.

A break in the weather meant he was airlifted off the mountain at 3am in the morning.
