The devil's in the detail for teachers grappling with new attendance rules

The devil's in the detail for teachers grappling with new attendance rules

David Seymour has instructed schools to take teacher-only days in term time, only if authorised by the Education Minister.

Secondary Principals Association president Vaughan Couillault says schools often use teacher only days - then simply add an extra day later in the year, to make up for it.

He says there's lots of confusion over who Seymour is targeting with this change.

Couillault says if it's a crackdown on schools not being open for the required number of days, no one in the sector wants to condone that sort of thing.
