Firefighting efforts are nearing an end at all three Canterbury blazes

Firefighting efforts are nearing an end at all three Canterbury blazes

Thirteen firefighters are working on the West Melton and Kirwee fires today, dealing with hotspots identified by thermal imaging drones last night.

Fire and Emergency says yesterday's flare-up at Kirwee was dealt with quickly, and wasn't unexpected in the windy conditions.

Patrols continue at the 980-hectare fire ground near Lake Pearson, after a flare-up was extinguished about six last night.

Discussions are also underway about handing the area back to landowners.
