Saoirse Ronan loves to "channel" her real-life emotions into her on-screen performances

The 30-year-old actress has recalled feeling "exhausted" and "cleansed" after filming some scenes in her career

Saoirse - who has starred in movies such as 'Lady Bird' and 'Little Women' - told Variety: "The reason why I love to act and I love to perform is that any of these wounds that you've got or emotions that you've got ready to go, you channel them into the performance. And if they're all sort of coming out of you unfiltered for a two-minute take and you feel like you've really allowed the floodgates to open, then by the end of the day you're knackered, but you're sort of cleansed from it, almost."

Saoirse also confessed to not having any inhibitions early in her career.

The award-winning star explained: "You're developing this discipline before you're really aware of what you're doing, which I feel really grateful for! There was this lack of inhibition when I was introduced to the world of acting for the first time."

Meanwhile, Saoirse recently revealed that she's lost out on film roles because she doesn't have a social media presence.

The acclaimed actress told Elle magazine: "I've been in audition rooms where I haven't gotten a role because I didn't have enough Twitter followers or whatever.

"And in the end, I was like, 'Okay, well, I don't want to be in a movie like that, anyway'. But when you're coming up and nobody knows who you are, and you're trying to make a name for yourself in the world that we're in now, I can understand how you can give that too much importance. I was lucky that I just got past that."
