    It was a tough weekend for the Wellington based sides in the opening round of the footballs National League Championship


    In the Mens competition, the Wellington Phoenix Reserves lost 2-0 to visitors Eastern Suburbs, reigning champions Wellington Olympic had a scoreless draw against Coastal Spirit and Western Suburbs fell 4-0 against Cashmere Technical in Porirua.

    Across in the Women's competition, the only Wellington team to record a win was Wellington United with 3-2 over Western Springs in Auckland.
