An Air New Zealand flight from Wellington to Australia was diverted to Auckland this afternoon because of an engine problem

Flight NZ249 to Sydney experienced the problem and hour into its flight, and landed safely in Auckland at 5:20.

Air New Zealand flight operations head Hugh Pearce says the problem with the Airbus A320 will be investigated.

The airline said in November that persistent engine problems had bitten into its bottom line as it forecasted lower earnings for the first half of 2024/2025.
