New Zealand all-rounder Mitch Santner has trumpeted the efforts of openers Will Young and Tom Latham on the first day of the third cricket test against England in Hamilton

New Zealand all-rounder Mitch Santner has trumpeted the efforts of openers Will Young and Tom Latham on the first day of the third cricket test against England in Hamilton

The hosts are 315 for nine, thanks in part to a first-wicket stand of 105 - Latham eventually made 63 and Young 42.

A middle order slump saw them lose five wickets for 59 runs before Santner flailed an unbeaten 50.

Another job will soon loom into view for the spinning all-rounder.

Will O'Rourke will resume with Santner - he is yet to score.
