A string of robberies on small businesses has reignited calls for action

A string of robberies on small businesses has reignited calls for action

An 18-year-old faced Hamilton District Court yesterday after pointing a gun at a River Road dairy worker on Wednesday afternoon.

A petrol station shop in Titirangi, West Auckland was struck by ram-raiders for a third time - in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A short time later, Glengarry Wines in Auckland's Mount Eden was also hit by thieves for the third time in less than two weeks.

Dairy Owners and Business Owners Group chair Sunny Kaushal says workers are suffering from deficient self defence laws.

He says most New Zealanders are shocked to learn a person can be charged for bruising a burglar, while defending their own property.
