    Waikato Regional Council has received its first ever oral submission ... in te reo Maori


    Hamilton-based lawyer James Alexander Hope was provided with an interpreter for his submission on the 2018-2028 Long Term Plan.

    He says it was important to him to deliver it in te reo, as it is the first language of the land and we are trying to protect it and bring it back - as close as possible - to its natural state.

    Regional council deputy chair Tipa Mahuta says the council has worked hard to connect with iwi and Maori through this LTP process.

    He says today's submission is exciting, and he hopes more submitters choose to do so in the future.
