A crew cleaning up some Christchurch waterways is handing over one particular find to police

More than 700 volunteers collected almost six tonnes of rubbish from the Avon and Heathcote rivers and the estuary - in the Mother of all Cleanups.
Avon-Otakaro Network Spokesman Evan Smith says they were surprised by the discovery of a rifle and pair of binoculars on the bed of the estuary.
He says they also found lots of used hypodermic needles and 77 tyres.
