It's the longitudinal study of child development involving nearly seven thousand children and their families.
Social Development Minister Carmel Sepuloni has just made the announcement.
She says it means all the families who've been part of the study since it began, can now be invited to participate in the current round of data collection.
Carmel Sepuloni says restoring the sample from two thousand back to its original size, will allow for more detailed analysis of different ethnic groups such as Maori and Pacific peoples.
