Prisoner rehabilitation expert says Budget's forward thinking for life after jail

An expert in prisoner rehabilitation says the Budget's forward thinking when it comes to life after being behind bars

Extra funding means a push for 270 more probation officers by 2022, boosting the number of defendants on electronically monitored bail to a thousand, and expanding alcohol treatment services.

Almost 58-million dollars has been put aside over the next for years to provide housing and support services for over three-hundred people a year.

Long-time justice reform advocate, Kim Workman says it shows the government wants to see more community-based probation and parole.

He says they need to make sure there are adequate drug and alcohol treatment facilities available to them on the outside.
