Internet NZ has welcomed the Government's new Privacy Bill but says further improvements are needed to keep privacy law up to date

Internet NZ has welcomed the Government's new Privacy Bill but says further improvements are needed to keep privacy law up to date

It's submitted suggestions such as giving New Zealanders a new right to know the purpose for information being held, alongside existing rights to the information itself.

Internet NZ senior policy advisor Ben Creet wants to see New Zealand's data breach protocols adapted from what other places are doing.

He says Australia and Europe have rules in place for an individual, and the Privacy Commissioner to be notified every time there's a significant data breach that'll causing serious harm
