Demolition of the 119 year old building was supposed to get underway today, but the contractor has told the Tasman District Council it's unable to start.
The Golden Bay Grand Stand Community Trust and the Golden Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association have filed proceedings in the High Court in a last ditch effort to keep the building.
Mayor Richard Kempthorne says they have to let the court process take its course .
