A 27-year-old Wellington man has appeared in court in relation to a suspicious item being found outside Te Papa

The item was found in a loading dock at the national museum on Friday night and Te Papa was evacuated as a precaution.

The incident caused Wellington Girls College ball to be cancelled.

The man appeared in Wellington District Court yesterday charged with wilful damage and burglary.

He was remanded on bail and will reappear in early July.
