The declining number of primary school teachers is being blamed on low pay and poor conditions

NZEI members plan to stop work for three hours one afternoon in August, after pay negotiations with the government broke down.
Berhampore School principal Mark Potter says people are leaving the profession, or not even entering it in the first place.
He says there's been a 40 per cent decline in the number of people training to be teachers.
