Serena Williams, who gave birth last September has her second round match against Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova, while former world number one Azarenka is up against seventh seed Karolina Pliskova in the first match of the day.
Azarenka, who hasn't played a lot of tennis since becoming embroiled in a custody battle over her son last year, says she doesn't mind a tough draw.
She says she can play against top players and it's important to see where her game is but there's never an easy road back to the top.
Defending men's champion Roger Federer plays his second round match while Michael Venus is the first New Zealander in doubles action.
