A woman has been given 12 months home detention for defrauding a Maori trust she was involved with of nearly a million dollars.

Margaret Dixon is a former trustee of Parengarenga Three G.

The trust manages around 510 hectares of forestry land in the Far North, which has hundreds of beneficial owners.

Dixon was charged after transferring 934 thousand dollars of the trust's funds to personal accounts and family trusts.

Alongside home detention, the Auckland District Court has ordered Dixon pay five thousand dollars in reparation.
