It's thought property owners have held off upgrading buildings, due to uncertainty over their future.
Multiple buildings on the road have been yellow-stickered, with one red-stickered by Auckland Council.
Dominion Road Business Association manager Gary Holmes says Auckland Transport wants to cut back about 50 to 60 verandas along Dominion Road to make way for double decker buses.
He says building owners are being hit with a double whammy.
Holmes says they're being expected to bring their buildings up to standard, while also having their buildings changed due to the double-decker bus project.
