The fallout of a number of decisions of late has led to the option being reconsidered.
It was previously tested in the under-20s grade and once in an NRL game in 2016, before officials scrapped the idea.
Queensland coach Kevin Walters, Knights coach Nathan Brown and New South Wales captain Boyd Cordner have all expressed there support for a new captains challenge trial.
