Investigation launched into allegations of illegal betting on National Basketball League games

An investigation has been launched into allegations of illegal betting on the results of several National Basketball League games this season

    - article from www.rugbyleague.co.nz

NBL chairman and Basketball New Zealand chief executive Iain Potter has told the Herald on Sunday that on multiple occasions over the past months, the NBL has asked the TAB to investigate alleged suspicious betting activity in games.

The league is looking into the recent game between the Taranaki Mountain Airs and Supercity Rangers in New Plymouth, where the Rangers took a suspicious time-out and last second shot to win by 12 points, sparking celebrations.

One of the popular options available to bet on at the TAB is for a team to win by 11 points or more.

Rangers coach Jeff Green has vehemently denied any wrongdoing by his team, claiming the play was to give a departing player a chance to take the last shot.
